Medicalis Corporation is a highly respected provider of advanced decision support tools for clinical information systems. Medicalis Percipio® is a web-based application providing clinical decision support for order entry, online enterprise scheduling, medical management tools, departmental order management, and access to laboratory results. Medicalis' evidence-driven knowledgebase integrates with customer's order-entry and documentation systems, requiring semantic interoperability with existing systems. The process of mapping and maintaining links between customer systems and the Medicalis knowledgebase is time-consuming and inefficient without standard terminology.

IMO Solution

IMO's expertise in the area of medical informatics, EHR development, and in particular, its Controlled Medical Terminology (CMT) was invaluable. IMO reviewed the business and technical needs of Medicalis, created a clinical terminology roadmap and content for the purposes of applying CMT to the Medicalis knowledgebase, and facilitated easy interoperability with present and future customer systems.

Result

Medicalis found a partner in IMO that would manage the terminology content for them, with the added value of its enhanced dictionaries, and that was easy to incorporate with "just the right amount of IT". The initial prototype went from conception to a working, online version in 3 days.
