Intelligent Medical Objects announces availability of
IMO® Problem IT™ 2010 Regulatory Release
NORTHBROOK, IL (August 27th, 2009) – Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO®) announces the general availability of their IMO® Problem IT™ 2010 Regulatory Release. This release is significant as it encompasses the 344 new 2010 ICD-9-CM code additions as well as the 151 ICD-9-CM code updates (description and flag changes), all of which become effective on October 1, 2010.
In accordance with IMO’s standard development process, new IMO user-friendly interface terms were created against these new ICD-9-CM codes to allow for continued intuitive capturing of patient diagnoses and problems. In many cases, IMO already had clinical coverage for these new ICD-9-CM codes, so only remapping was necessary. For example, IMO has had the terms “Swine Flu” and “H1N1 Influenza” in our offering since April 2009. With the addition of the new ICD-9-CM code 488.1, Influenza due to identified novel H1N1 influenza virus, these terms were remapped from their previous maps to 487.1 to the new code. In addition, with guidance from our partner AHIMA, over 1,600 pre-existing IMO interface terms were remapped to different ICD-9-CM codes to better reflect the updated ICD-9-CM coding rules.
“We understand how ICD-9-CM coding updates can impact the workflow within an EHR system, especially as it pertains to billing. That is why we make these regulatory releases available five weeks before the effective dates.” says Jose Maldonado, IMO’s Terminology Product Manager. “For our existing vendor partners, we’ve worked closely with them to ensure that applying this update is as seamless as possible. Given our prior experience, as well as recent enhancements to our delivery mechanisms, we are confident that any new implementation of IMO can be in place before the October 1st regulatory deadline.”
“IMO believes in taking a community-based approach to supporting the comprehensive use cases demanded by our large, multi-disciplinary user community for the IMO clinical interface terminology,“ says Dr. Amy Y. Wang, IMO’s Chief Medical Officer. “This release certainly reflects that approach as it includes over 5,000 new terms as requested by our customers, several of which have just recently begun licensing IMO. All of these terms were carefully mapped to both ICD-9-CM codes as well as SNOMED® CT concepts at the most appropriate level of specificity. The beauty is that all of our existing and future customers now can benefit from these customer-driven IMO enhancements.”
IMO® Problem IT™ is a clinical diagnosis and problem terminology that is distributed 10 times per year and contains over 170,000 user-friendly terms for clinicians, coders, and patients. It is used by our vendor partners within electronic health record (EHR) systems to document diagnoses, problems, and medical histories. IMO is committed to providing our customers with the terms that they need as quickly as possible. As soon as a term is requested and approved by IMO, the term is appropriately mapped to administrative and reference codes and delivered in the next release. “We are committed to make sure our vendor partners are able to capture the clinical intent using the IMO just-in-time terminology service”, says Frank Naeymi-Rad, IMO’s CEO.
