Abstract
This paper describes the development of an Intelligent Medical Record System implemented via a Feature Dictionary and a Portable Patient File. The Feature Dictionary supports translation of medical knowledge across multiple domains while the Portable Patient File supplies a standard format in which patient data is stored. The Intelligent Medical Record System uses the Feature Dictionary to manipulate and translate the data from the Portable Patient file automatically into the input formats expected by a number of computer-based information retrieval systems and medical expert systems.
